VanDrunen mentions God working as Redeemer through one, and Creator and Sustainer through the other.

I think these distinctions are more or less accurate. It cannot be denied that there are two kingdoms. Jesus is forever contrasting his kingdom, and the kingdom of the world. The problem is that these kingdoms are generally described as consisting of believers and non-believers. Therefore, there is little mention of what kingdom rocks and trees fall into.

Exegetically, one interesting verse I was thinking about today is Rom. 8:22 where the, "whole of creation has been groaning in pains of childbirth 'until now'". The 'until now' indicates that something is fundamentally altered in creation at the point of Christ's advent.

It's all a lot to think about. I'm reading 'The Politics of Jesus' in conjunction with VanDrunen, so it's an interesting combination. Both bring up excellent points.John Paullinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12286709775482914784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4585134877503047781.post-24719358853394215942010-03-13T18:37:12.687-08:002010-03-13T18:37:12.687-08:00I'm excited to hear more about your findings J...I'm excited to hear more about your findings John - and really glad I don't have to read the book myself.

How does all this connect with the World Council of Churches' understanding that mission is bringing the kingdom of God to bear on all of life?
